Personal submission e.g. How would attendance at the safety 2010 conference help you to improve the prevention of injury and the promotion of safety in your locality?	There is an apparent difference in the disproportionate burden from a majority of injuries on poorer, ethnic minority communities. This fact is in an indicator that there is a need for representatives from these communities to attend this conference and others like it in order to begin efforts to close this disparity gap. As an African American woman I am a witness to the devastating psychological, social, and economical effects of preventable unintentional injury caused by violence. Primary prevention of abuse and community education is salient in reducing mortality and morbidity rates of unintentional injury caused by violence. In order to educate my community, a personalized line of communication and understanding must be developed between health care professionals and the community. As a graduate student in womens health program, attending this conference would be the first step in developing that line. The information, knowledge, and professional networks that will be obtained during this conference will be utilized in translational research efforts in order to create the type of effective intervention programs that lower ethnic minority womens risk of being injured unintentionally by violence. Attending the Safety 2010 World Conference will allow me to be a part of the debate, discussion, and exchange of information with the stakeholders in the prevention of unintentional injuries and violence. This experience is essential to my development as future health educator and policy maker.
