Personal submission e.g. How would attendance at the safety 2010 conference help you to improve the prevention of injury and the promotion of safety in your locality?	Youthsafe is a not-for-profit organisation based in Sydney, Australia. With the support of the University of New South Wales our community sports safety initiative, SafeClub, has been evaluated over a 2 year period and shown to significantly improve sports safety amongst community football clubs. A report on the evaluation was published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine in 2006. Despite the good evaluation results Youthsafe has had difficulties transforming the SafeClub research into practice. While sporting groups report that safety is a priority, in reality safety comes low in the list of 'must-do' activities for sport. Barriers include the volunteer nature of sport, time-poor sports administrators and an acceptance that injury is 'just a part of sport'. Given the evidence-base supporting the value of SafeClub, Youthsafe is committed to making the program available in an effort to improve the safety of community level sport in Australia. To this end, attendance at Safety 2010 (ideally to present a paper on the sports safety research) would significantly improve the profile of the program in our local region. In addition, and perhaps more importantly, attendance at Safety 2010 would allow Youthsafe to learn from others who have successfully overcome barriers to introduce evidence-based programs into communities.
