Personal submission e.g. How would attendance at the safety 2010 conference help you to improve the prevention of injury and the promotion of safety in your locality?	As a development professional (Architect and Urban Planner working as Project Scientist at TRIPP, IIT Delhi) and Research Scholar (Ph.D Scholar, Civil Engg. Dept, IIT Delhi), I am involved in non-motorized transport planning and related land use aspects for medium and large cities. The focus has been on road based Public transport and bicycle, rickshaws and hawkers/vendors. Most of the work deals with safe infrastructure for non-motorized transport, integrated planning and designing for reduced crashes and promoting/advocating safety/priority perception among these mode users. As perceived from the conference details, the discussions will be informative and inspiring for me. Interaction with experts from various fields and people from all sectors will be beneficial for me, as a Physical and Transport Planner implementing projects on ground. The opportunity will not only let me be a part of bigger network, but also let me plan and implement the safe and sustainable transport and land use development in small and medium cities, through advocacy / policy intervention. Despite adequate funds and other resources, the vision zero is far from reality in our fast growing Indian urban areas. The typical medium density, mixed land use, spatial distribution of informal sector makes Indian cities unique. Owing to the experience, adequate exposure, field knowledge and strong research background; it is apparent that I shall be able to give concrete inputs related to sustainable land use and hence, promoting safer transport, especially for urban poor/masses in South Asian region.
