Personal submission e.g. How would attendance at the safety 2010 conference help you to improve the prevention of injury and the promotion of safety in your locality?	I am a Senior Resident in Department of Community Medicine, Maulana Azad Medical College. One of my prime responsibilities is to initiate and participate in health related work carried out in colleges field practice areas. This involves training of our community based health workers, paramedics, interns and junior residents on various physical injury and disease prevention and treatment methodologies to sensitize and educate the community volunteers and general masses for better health. The target population mainly comprises of families from lower and lower middle socio economic strata including urban slums and resettlement colonies. We unfortunately witness an insurmountable number of preventable injuries and accidents in our routine OPD services. Our direct contact with community also exposes us to the sensitive issues as domestic violence, child maltreatment and violence among youth. This exposure brings with it an additional responsibility to help prevent such instances to create a safer community. The inadvertent lack of expertise and care to discuss, resolve and mitigate such issues outside the family domain is an area of key concern. A Catalytic Role Participation in the Safety Conference 2010 will provide me with better understanding of the injury related issues, different safety promotion methodologies and the ways to mitigate them with optimal local resource utilization. The conference will also enable me to train my team and peer group about safety concerns and enable our department in designing and conducting out the safety concerned projects and research work, thus acting as a catalyst in creating a Safer Society.
