Abstract Content *
Population-based studies worldwide report 10-69% of women experience intimate partner violence in their lifetime. In Canada, 7% of women reported abuse in the previous five years; of these 44% said they were injured during an assault; 13% required medical attention. Yet few health care providers (HCP) consider they have the knowledge or skills to assess for abuse or respond appropriately to disclosures. Our innovative, interactive online curriculum uses video-gaming technology to engage learners. The curriculum went online in Ontario in 2007 and to date almost 2,000 learners have accessed the program.

Method: Learners complete a demographic form, a pre-test and at 3-months a post-test. Descriptive statistics are generated.

Results: By Sept. 2009, 1761 HCPs had completed the pre-test. Differences in knowledge at pre-test are noted by profession, gender, age, and geographic region. Post-test results suggest the program is successful at increasing both knowledge and self-confidence. Changes in practice are also noted.

In this presentation we will present data from the pre and post tests learners complete, demographic information, and details regarding the changes to practice that learners make as a result of the program.
