Community Based Health and First Aid (CBHFA) programme is found an important program for the vulnerable community. Under this program a vulnerable community is selected based on the criteria such as low literary rate, low income settlement, vulnerable to diseases and disaster, isolated settlement etc. A volunteer is selected among 20 to 30 households. The volunteers are trained on first aid and primary health problem prevailing in the concerned community.  The volunteers are trained on first aid and primary health care. They are equipped with first aid kit and trained on how to adapt local materials as first aid items. One of the popular techniques is making stretcher using blankets, bed sheets or jute sacks. 
The community people find out and locate the existing hazards and resources to cope with the hazards under leadership of the volunteers. The volunteers meet once a month and share their efforts. The volunteers and community people prepare action plan for one year being based on the available resources and hazards. The community people also form community units to assist and guide the volunteers. All the volunteers are affiliated with Nepal Red Cross local branch that provides technical support to the volunteers.
 The volunteers also motivate the community people for adapting hygiene, making toilet in every households. They have also generated fund which will be used to replenish the consumed first aid kits and emergency relief. This effort of the CBHFA volunteers has become a journey which will lead the community towards a safe community.
