Road traffic injuries has been one of the important causes of death since 1969.Therefore the epidemiology  division under the Ministry of Public Health was assigned to develop a standard model for epidemiological operations in order to obtain the data on the issue.In 1992 Injury surveillance(IS) had been drafted up and went to a pilot test in 5 hospitals. At present, the national injury surveillance covers 31 provinces and 33 provincial hospitals nationwide.The population under the surveillance system is severe injured(DBA,Died in ER, or admitted in the hospital)from external causes(ICD10:V01- Y36),presented within 7 days after occurrence at the emergency rooms.We set two main objectives; one  is to have a database for assessing the quality of acute care and inter-facility transfer provided by hospitals and from this database we now having a continuous development of emrgency medical care.The other is to facilitate injury prevention and control at both local and national levels, so the system will cover all provincial hospitals making them be able to use the information for their own benefits by 2014.The ultimate goal on the use of such system for injury prevention is to link IS with the database of Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Transport. Thus, we are not only add epidemiological variables but also the 13-digit of the national ID cards.By such means,the exchange of informations among related agencies could be possible and might be achieved in the future.
