Lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), which include urinary incontinence, are common in both genders and increase in prevalence with age. A small number of studies demonstrate an association between urinary incontinence and falls in community living older people with two showing urinary incontinence to be one of the strongest predictors for recurrent falls (Tromp et al, 1998,2001) .   However there is a lack of information on the contribution of any other LUTS, in particular storage LUTS (urgency, frequency, nocturia) which are known to be more commonly experienced by older people than urinary incontinence alone. This poster will present the results from a structured postal survey of all community living people aged 60 and over in two contrasting GP practice areas  one affluent and one deprived.  An overall response rate of 38% provided 1100 questionnaires with self-reported information on the older persons health and medical condition; their experience of LUTS and associated factors, including falls at night when rising to use the toilet. Previously unreported differences in nocturia related falls will be presented.
