Most research of violence over family medicine physicians was carried out in Great Britain, Australia and New Zealand. In this research we will attempt to explore the degree, type and reasons for violence of patients inflicting on family medicine physicians in Croatia.
Methods: The on  line questionnaire was anonymous and consisted of 14 questions. We used mailing list with 484 addresses of family physisians. Physicians were asked about type of violence (verbal, verbal with treats, light body injury, and heavy body injury) place where certain type of violence occurred, gender of violator, and the cause of violence. 
Results: 139 FMPs (28,7%) returned the questionnaire, 110 female and 28 male. Most frequent form of violence were verbal and verbal with treats. Place of infliction were the physicians office (161) and waiting room (56). Mostly involved male patients (161), while female cases were less frequent (67 cases). Body injuries to physicians were mostly inflicted by male patients. Most frequent reasons was not receiving expected medical reference (70), and not receiving expected medical prescription (68) followed by violence as a result of alcoholic intoxication of patients and psychic disorders in patients.
Conclusion: there is evident need for effective education of family medicine physicians to enable them recognize possible violators and how to evade the situation with possible violence outbursts. The government insurance companies should carry out better patient education of patient's rights and obligations.
