Objective: To determine the proportion of women from eight indigenous regions of Mexico that denounce physical and / or sexual (FS) partner violence and analyze variables associated with the denunciation. Material and Methods: Throughout a cross-sectional approximation a total of 23,465 indigenous women between 15-59 years old that reported FS partner violence were analyzed, using logistic regression model to identify factors associated with the denunciation. Women who demanded public health care services were interviewed through a face-to-face questionnaire between September 2006 and April of 2007. Results: A total of 40% of the women who experienced FS violence denounced there partner. Having a physical injury as a result from the FS partner violence, stratum, indigenous region to which she belongs, the couple drinks alcohol and gets drunk, employed women and those with history of childhood violence were positively associated with the denunciation of their partner. Discussion and Conclusions: One of the findings that we consider most important is that despite such adverse conditions in which indigenous women live a significant number of them cannot accept being passive victims and denounce the violence. One possible explanation is that indigenous communities have a long history of airing interpersonal conflicts with local authorities. It is also important to highlight the differences that exist between regions; therefore, one cannot speak of "the Indian world" as if it were a homogeneous whole. Rather, a conclusion to emphasize is that it is essential to deepen the knowledge of the differences in regional conditions.
